Infrastructure improvements will help pave the way as two economic expansion projects invest a combined $92 million in Dothan for their own future growth!

Two expansion projects

As two economic expansion projects invest a combined $92 million in Dothan, residents can eventually expect new job opportunities as well. Both businesses happen to involve the timber industry.

Peak Renewables

For starters, Peak Renewables will construct a wood pellet production facility in the Wiregrass.

The renewable energy company will use sawmill remainders to make pellets. The pellets will then be used in renewable power generation.

Peak Renewables’ $30 million project will result in an additional 26 jobs. The projected completion date is next year.

SmartLam North America

The second expansion project will create another 43 jobs when all is said and done.

SmartLam North America produces cross laminated timber products. In fact, the existing Dothan facility is the first manufacturer in the U.S. to offer Southern Yellow Pine cross laminated timber products.

They plan to construct a $62 million glulam manufacturing facility.

The new state-of-the-art, 140,000-square-foot facility will allow SmartLam North America to produce large beams and columns for the construction industry.

What’s more, the company plans to invest additional funds to fully automate its current Dothan manufacturing facility. In turn, production at that plant will be increased too.

The new manufacturing plant hopes to be operational by October 2024.

Infrastructure improvements

Set for big things, as these two economic expansion projects invest a combined $92 million in Dothan, the city will work to accommodate the projects with improved infrastructure.

In an effort to help both industries support their expansions, the city will start a few projects of their own. For instance, a new industrial access road will be needed as well as improved water and electrical utilities.
